Lemon Meringue

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

This is another great brugmansia from seedsprout nursery, especially good for those of you who live in the warmest zones of the U.S.
Lemon Meringue thrived all summer long. Her leaves retained their dark green coloration even when grown in full summer sun. As soon as I arrived home in sept she had already begun to set buds and now has begun blooming. This phase of the bloom the blossoms are two toned and remain this way for several days. As the blossom fully opens it becomes pristine white. It has nice size to the blossoms as well, much larger than say Golden Lady. I have had no deformed blooms on this plant. Truly a top notch cultivar....if she keeps up like this all winter she will quickly move into the ranks of my top ten brugs.

OOohhh this is what it will look like. I bought one from Seedsprout Nursery before the summer ended. Hurricane Ike was not gonna mess this one up since I put her someplace safe! The brug went from 1 1/2 foot tall (multiple stems) to almost 3 feet tall..will post pics soon as I get bloom buds...

I think this is one of the best newer brugs! I just love LM.

Winds and rainstorms have beaten this bloom for two days now but she is still hanging in there showing the clear separation of three separate skirts!

Mmmmm fabulous! Makes me want pie!

She is spectacular!

Very nice!!! My photo shows 3 skirts also. I got a couple blooms on her that were quadruple earlier this season. One was well defined on all 4 layers and the other , the 4th skirt was sorta stuffed.

Very Pretty

Clermont, FL(Zone 9b)

This hybrid is driving me crazy when it comes to hybridizing. All my blooms have been quads and I keep slicing them open when the third skirt is dropping. At the time I find out the fourth is only a couple of inches long and it is nearly impossible to get at the stigma and the pollen is non-existent. I'm trying to let the rest of blossoms open all the way up first but it kills me when I have to walk past them with scissors and forceps in hand. :)

I have pollen from mine but I am having a problem with it making pods. I think she has hysterical pregnancies lol! They start out making a pod and then it turns into something wierd like a square blank pod (hard to explain!). I think she *wants* to be PG though!

Can someone dissect one of these flowers and lay it out flat to post a picture for us? I'd like to see the corolla as well as the stigma/style/peduncle. So, I'm asking for two pictures really. If you want a double that has excellent breeding potential both ways you might want to go after Langenbuscher Garten. Heavy rich pollen and nice perfect stigma begging to accept any pollen you toss its way.

Looks like I finally got a pod on Lemon Meringue. It's a Lemon Meringue x Mountain Magic cross. I also have some pods that I have outcrossed lemon meringue with like Rosalie x Lemon Meringue, Ludgers Summer Dream x Lemon Meringue as well as a Pink Charm x Lemon Meringue pod.
Mountain Magic is also sitting with a Mountain Magic x Lemon Meringue pod. I always make an attempt to do cross both ways whenever possible

I hope those crosses produce something great for you.

Congrats on your pod with LM as the momma. Mine is flushing now so I can try again.

So far LM pollen seems to take on other plants okay here too. I have pods of Rosalla x LM, NOL x LM, LWS x LM, PLady x LM, and Ila M. x LM. Its gonna be interesting to see what the babies are gonna look like with everyone's seedlings!
