basic question (2 parts)

Do all begonias have asymmetrical leaves? Are begonias the only plants that have asymmetrical leaves?

First; what is your idea of asymmetrical? And I feel that; no, some leaves of begonias are not all asymmetrical, there are lots of shapes and sizes, as well as texture too. I have a rare begonia called Gehertii, and I'm waiting for it to sprout and get larger to see the puckered , textured leaves on it! I am just 1 of many that I'm sure that have lots of different kinds of Begonias, like yourself! Thanks, Melodie

I should have thought my question through better before I sent it. I'm thinking of post oak or Chinquapin oak leaves- they certainly aren't symmetrical in the sense I was thinking. I guess what I am getting at is that many leaves have a visible (a vein, for instance) or an invisible line from petiole to the tip along which the leaf could be doubled over and the halves would more or less be mirror images. Kind of like a human face. Not perfectly symmetrical, but close.

Every begonia that I have ever seen has leaves that don't fit this description. If you "half" a leaf down the middle(wherever that might be), the two halves are shaped differently. Sometime in the past I read or was told that that is a characteristic of all begonias.

I hope my question is a little less murky- thanks very much for your reply.

dp72, your very welcome for the reply, it was just my own opinion, and I hope that it helped! Thanks, Melodie
