Hey Lily_love you going to the RU this saturday?
Hi Jame, I wished I could attend the FL/Al RU. Maybe next year? Didn't have enough time for preparation....and U?
Yes that why I am asking if you were going I would love to give you something that I think you would like or I hope that you would like.
James
Oh James, that's so sweet of you. I'd cheerish that thought. Many thanks.
Congratulations! That is wonderful! I would be ecstatic if mine would bloom! I've had it about three years, and so far nothing. I have two very small ones that I raised from seed. They are about a year old, and not very tall.
Love the color!
Kyle, do you recognize this to be the same plant? Here in my region, I keep this BOP outdoor 9-10 months out of a growing season. It was sizeable when I purchased back in 2000, over 8 years old plus, and it has not bloomed for me. Also the pot is but about 5 gallon or so. Some said that if the root system is disturbed, these plant won't bloom. Have you got some helpful tips to share? Thanks in advance.
The banana looks like Musa bordelon.
Who's mine?
Kim, your plant is strelitzia alba, the giant white bop needs full sun, lots of fertilizer, and a pot a little larger then what yours is in.Don't divide it unless you want more plants. The way the leaves look drooped over, usually mean its not getting enough sun.The leaves should overlap and grow upward in a vase shape if the plant is happy.Transplanting a BOP isn't the same as disturbing the roots.I remove the plant, place in a new bigger pot and add new soil. They don't even know they have been moved.Seperating the roots or splitting the rootball is disturbing the roots. This make any sense??? LOL
Kyle :-)
Yes, James, it's yours. A musa. Enjoy my friend.
Kyle, many thanks, and yes that makes lot of sense. LOL. I'll transplant the giant white BOP asap.
Yes it is Kim now I know what species that makes me happy to know what species I have I hope to get some bananas from it next year.
James
I love, love, love that BOP! Congratulations on your bloom, and that folaige is fantastic.
I have a dwarf BOP grown from seed. It is growing very slow. Any ideas what I need to do to speed up the growth process.
Eclipse - your plant is just beautiful

I purchased a white BOP from Lowe's this fall. It has several in the pot and I have repotted it already. How long should I expect to wait for blooms? Years? It was in the next size up from a gallon pot when I bought it. How large do these get?
