New Member Intro from Jersey

West Orange, NJ(Zone 6a)

Been lurking for weeks; guess it's time to write up an intro.

I'm a baby boomer former-college-professor-turned Webmaster who lives in the Jersey suburbs of NYC. I'm also entrepreneurial in nature and have started and run a number of businesses; currently thinking about starting up a new enterprise in the gardening field. I am married to a gourmet food importer who lived in Paris and Rome for 21 years and whose hobby is gourmet cooking. When he lived in Europe he took cooking classes and became quite the hobby chef. At our house, he is the Chef and I am the Gardener. We reside in a converted carriage house on an old estate. The estate has an interesting history to it and I've really enjoyed researching it. I'm in a neighborhood full of intriguing old estates, including that of Thomas Edison. There are no cars going past and it's completely private here, which means I could skinny dip and garden in the nude (current topic on the thread list!) if I wanted to!

I'm an organic gardener. Been an environmentalist from the very first Earth Day. Am politically active and lean toward the left.

Never wanted any kids but I have a cat, Mitzi, on whom I shower loads of attention. We also have a parrot, Babe, residing here for a few years (babysitting). The parrot is very clever and is always tricking me by pretending to be the cat. He meows, jingles his bell to sound like the tags on kitty's collar, and in general makes a fool out of me on a regular basis. He is so smart he even knows how to panic me by imitating a cat in distress. We whistle songs back and forth as I garden. If he doesn't get enough attention, he will say, "Well, F you then!" (I didn't teach him that!)

Welcome to the garden NJCher from the Lone Star state. Oh wow I can't believe you didn't know there's a law in in the Jersey suburbs about exposing a sensitive parrot named Babe to a cat named Mitzi. You need to contact Delta immeditely and arrange for first class passage for Babe to me in Texas. I promise not to let any Red Necks around her to teach any new swear words. Just kidding, your pet's sound great and we have 4 cats so Babe probably wouldn't like it here. My DH's Grandparents had one when he was growing up named Polly of course. I remember Polly was quite a little cusser to. We would love to have one but with 4 cats, I'm afraid it would be to much for a parrot. Post some pictures if you can, I would love to see your babies! I look forward to seeing you around garden.

Welcome to the DG Family!

Oh by the way you could have your gourmet chef escort Babe to me and I could send you 4 cats in trade for the two of them. Let me know if your interested in a trade!

Eyes couldn't sleep last night so of course I came for a garden visit. Then you know how it is, once I started I just couldn't stop. I'm still waiting to see if NJ Cher is willing to trade with me.How about it NJ Cher you out there and ready to trade? I'm dreaming about gourmet meals and DH will love Babe so he'll probably let me keep the Chef. Waiting for your response with finger's and toe's crossed!
