Hello,
I just rescued a Miniature Pinscher from "AWishForAnimals" this past Friday night. He is approx. 8-12 weeks old, purebreed, and had cruel breeding owners. They also had his 10yo Grandmother and 8 yo mother on site. His mother ignored him, so he really really likes people.
I have read all over the internet about crate training, and have decided to go this route to help out with the potty training. So far we're doing pretty good. Here's a run down of what has happened Saturday up until Today....
Saturday: Went to bed last night (friday) at 9pm, then woke me up every three hours for a pee break, after which he just went right back into the crate, and woke up every 3 hurs on the dot (give or take 5-10 mins) but then he had breakfast at 9am and is now sound asleep in between Todd and I on "his" bed which is on "our" bed.
I am happy to say that Chester went pee 6 times out on the back patio, on peepads, pooped once on the door mat..err, but hes getting there, AND this is the big deal... he peed for my DH AND my DS too!!! wooohooo
Went to bed (in his crate) at 9pm and woke me up every 4 hours this time for a potty break. It's super cold at night here all a sudden so he doesn't want to have anything to do with the back patio at night. I'm trying to get him to go in the garage on the potty pads, so far that work this morning (Sunday) only. He had two accidents in his crate last night, I'm thinking it may have just been too cold outside and unfamiliar in the garage.
ANY help on the crating I can use... how long, how often, when, when not to, anything and everything. He wound up sleeping on our bed after 6 am this morning cause he was so cold. I added a towel in his crate for warmth, figured this way he could stay in there on the towel and not the cold hard plastic. He's back in his crate now, cause I have a million things to get done.... forgot that having a puppy was like having an infant all over again!! :o) He is very loved though, I don't regret adopting him one bit.
