We just moved to Poulsbo, Wa last year. We hear a very distinct bird song spring, summer and now fall. My name is Mary, and this bird sounds like it is calling my name...maareeee, maareee. I have searched the internet trying to find this bird. The closest song seems to be the towhee Do any of you have a suggestion of what this bird may be? Thank you very much.
CLOSED: Mystery bird?
Mary, welcome to Dave's Garden. Our area has many Rufous Sided Towhees so that may be the bird you hear. I see them all of the time in the yard but am afraid my hearing is so bad I wouldn't recognize a call if it was sitting on my shoulder. :-) Sorry, I know that's not much help.
Dear Bruce,
Thank you sooo much. Mystery solved!! I looked up Rufous sided towhee and this is exactly the bird I am hearing. I have even seen this bird scratching in the woody area behind our house, but I did not know he was making the bird sound I was hearing. You are my hero!!! Thanks again. Mary
Glad it was the right bird! I do so love watching the animals wandering through my yard.
