After missing three blooms at three different times, we were finally successful at seeing this one bloom. She has earned her winter rest!
Our Queen
Beautiful flower and a beautiful picture. Congratulation

Thanks. DH was the photographer. I actually had to get him out of bed to take photos. I had checked about 8:00 o'clock and it seemed like there would be no action last night, however, on a hunch, I went back and checked at 9:45 and found that it was almost open, therefore had to wake him up to do his thing. It was still semi-open this morning so we could see it in the daylight. I took this one which isn't as good as his, but we could name this one "woman squatting in pink bathrobe holding camera in left hand, peering through fingers at viewfinder with index finger on button holding flower in right hand!" This one was taken at 8:30 this morning.
That is not a bad picture I think it is nice. some times a better picture is one that is a little off center.

Jean: Wow, Those are both great photo's of a beautiful flower! I had no idea they stayed open that long! My Epi hookeri opens @ 11:00 p.m. and is completely done before sunrise. I can't wait for my Epi Oxypetalum "Queen" to bloom!
Thanks Sandy and plantlady. Perhaps one of the reasons our epi stayed open so long here in AR is that we have been having warm days and cool nights and yesterday morning was cloudy. I was judging the opening of this one by the one we had in FL. That one began to open in the late afternoon and was almost completely closed in the morning. Ours here is the "daughter" of the one in FL. Hope to see your pix soon, plantlady. Can't get enough of these beautiful plants. Would post a picture of the one in FL but am on my laptop and don't have access to my photos but you can see the progression on Beginner Gardening Questions -- "How do you make a night blooming Cereus bloom," along with the times.
