My Ex found this poor little guy at his job site Thursday evening. Mike (the Ex)was so upset at the condition this little stray was in, that I could barely make sense out of what he was trying to tell me on the phone (He was crying so hard). Long story short: I went and rescued "Kitty" (and Mike) from the job site 45 miles away yesterday and brought him to my vet (where I knew I had good credit). His appetite was good and he's alert.
Here's the scoop: His left eye is seriously injured and infected (he'll lose it), he is a sack of bones with a skin and fur 'covering'. The vet is guessing that he is 7-8 months old, but he only weighs 3.1 pounds. His ear tips are gone from old frost bite injuries. His tail is broken. He has what feels to be a B.B. under the skin behind his left ear, healed over. He has serious ear mites and fleas. He also was filthy and smelled awful! He tested a weak positive for leukemia (not good at all)
Despite the weak-positive leukemia test, we decided he deserved a chance at a decent life (however long it may be). I should note here, that had it been a strong positive, our decision would probably have been different. So....
He needs surgery for his eye, tail, B.B., and neutering, but needs to be stronger prior to surgery, which is tentively scheduled for Tuesday. Meanwhile, he got his rabies shot, ear mite medication, flea medication, his eye cleaned up for now, worming (vet reported tapeworms, round worms, and one mouse), and a bath.
(I won't talk about the $$ amount, as this is BEFORE surgery.) I am astounded that this little guy has survived as long as he has, yet, he is not feral, but very friendly and affectionate. He's a PURRBIE.
We started calling him Jack (as in Captain Jack or One-Eye Jack). He is currently isolated from my other cats in my spare bedroom in a large kennel (due to the possible leukemia situation). He currently seems JUST HAPPY!
He'll be here until after his surgery and then he'll go home to be Mike's kitty. So, without further adieu, meet Jack:
