Disc hoya....

Jacksonville, FL

I just mail ordered some cacti cuttings from the internet and the seller was very nice and she also inlcuded a sprout of a 'Disc Hoya' has anyone heard of this? I searched the platfiles and got zero matches. I do not know a thing about hoyas so this is my first so i'd like to keep it alive. I need to know about this cultivar so I can plant it and keep it alive.

That's a new one for me. Could she maybe be talking about Hoya obovata? The leaves are round and somewhat like a disc... will go find a picture for you.

Well shoot... you can't insert a pic on an edit. :(

Looks very simular , but then again there are only 3 leaves on it the size of a dime. But it doesn't have any spots, can the babies not have spots, is that a normal varience in hoyas?

Wish I could help you, chubbydoll, but I can't think of any that look like you describe. Is the leaf fuzzy? Dark on top and light underneath? Can you give us a verbal picture of it?
There is a baby leaf near the center of my picture. Does yours look like that?

If it's size of a dime, it could be H serpens?

H. serpens was my first reaction too with leaves that size, and no speckling.

I hope this helps. Thanks for all the input guys!!!

Check out Hoya nummularoides and see if that matches.

It looks like that but the description says the foliage is fuzzy..this is not fuzzy. Otherwise it looks like that.

One of our members, AlohaHoya, Carol, is an expert. She raises and ships Hoya from the Big Island in Hawaii. She knows more than anyone I have ever met.

This Hoya can be referred to as having 'fuzzy' leaves, but in reality the 'fuzzyness' is not strong, say like velvet..Its just dosent feel smooth and shiny like a lot of other Hoyas. I certainly wouldnt describe the leaves as 'fuzzy' on my plant...

Didn't mean to imply that you guys don't know your stuff.
Sorry.

The photo looks like H. nummulariods.

Could you give the size of the leaves?

Jacksonville, FL

The lady who gave it to me just emailed me and said it was H. holliana. but it doesn't look like the one listed in Plantfiles!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Well...it is NOT H. cv. Holliana...that much we can all tell you. Size of leaves?

Jacksonville, FL

the leaves are about the size of a nickel

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

very possibly H. nummularoides. Are they thickish?

Jacksonville, FL

yes

Generally speaking it is next to impossible to ID a hoya from leaves...so everything is a rough guess. Waiting for flowers is boring....but we do it all the time!!! JAJAJAJA
