Will it hurt to:

What will it hurt if I trim the ends of the stems some? I get so mad at mine because they won't bloom. If it hurts their chances to bloom someday I don't want to cut them.

Makshi, I routinely snip off dead and dying ends of stems. If they're healthy and have finished growing, a little nip off the end won't hurt much and may in fact encourage more growth at the base of the plant. But in my experience, it won't promote blooming and in fact may retard it somewhat.

Christine,

I wish I could get mine to bloom. They are large plants but have never bloomed for me. I keep hoping.

I know its hard to be patient, but if you care for them properly, it will happen. I have some that have taken more than a year to show any new growth; and others that will bloom within 8 months of being a cutting. If you want results like that, get a multiflora, they are blooming fools.

I have had them for several years and they weren't new when I got them. Guess I will enjoy the folliage.

Makshi...maybe you are treating your hoyas too well, and they don't need to bloom (make flowers/seeds/eternal life) - ?

Hi Makshi,
you are not alone - I have severl carnosas that I have for 3-5 years that have never bloomed. I have a Shooting Star Hoya that blooms most of the year. I have a noid hoya that I rescued from someone's trash (roundish flat succulent leaves with faint silver splashes) that revived wonderfully, and is growing like crazy but no blooms there either.

Personally, I would not cut the long vines back...it is the growth pattern of the plant....and blooming point will come from that growth.

Think I will just leave them alone and see what happens.

Keep winding them around....always ending up with the tip pointed UP and above mid plant.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

They have to wind up?? I have just let mine hang mostly.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

They naturally want to point UP. Even a hanging plant generally has the tips of the vines bending up....but if you are growing them in a pot with a trellis...best to point them up. There is a thread with pictures somewhere...

They are in hanging baskets.

OK...i wouldn't worry, then. When left to their own devices, they will do what is best for themselves.
