Well, I knew y'all probably didn't believe me, but here is my lilac blooming today. Sure it's sparce but smells just as good!
Spring in October
Very nice Violabird......I love the smell of lilac too.....I have a heat tolerant one in a pot.....I"m actually amazed it's still alive...it's more of an experiment as I don't think it will bloom down here for me but my fingers are still crossed.
There are some cultivars that don't need as much winter chill to bloom so if your heat tolerant one is one of those then you may get some blooms.
LOOK at that!! Amazing! Mine's never done that...gets loads come spring and they stay quite some time but then...poof...done till next year.
Ah, but this an old-fashioned Persian Lilac I got from Michigan. It has bloomed twice a year for the last 5 years at least. Can't wait to see what it does this spring since I cleared the overgrown jungle around it and added some sweeter compost.
Hmph...mine is a Persian Lilac too...we'll see...
Hey Susan, never heard of that one. I didn't know if a lilac would do well here either but being from Michigan, I was bound and determined to have one! It doesn't bloom and sucker the way they do up north, but I'll take it anyway I can get it--and now I get it twice a year, LOL!
Here it is in April, but the color is off, it's not pink. I remember they bloomed around Memorial Day up north.
Redford, Livonia, Westland--not far--but I've never been back.
