I'm going to replace a spirea 'little princess' in this garden. There's a Siberian Iris by the rock, a pygmy barberry next to that, some sort of perennial geranium on the corner, a different geranium along the driveway, and then the spirea in the middle. The spirea is alright, but I think the leaves are too small next to the other plants, especially the large patch of geranium along the driveway. It looks busy and messy. I'd like to replace it with a large leafed shrub or perennial. It needs to be about the same size plant as the spirea so it doesn't hide the rock. The area gets full sun all day. There's about a foot of topsoil with nothing but sand under that. I'm in zone 5. Do any of you have any suggestions?
I think I need a plant with big leaves here.
