Hi everyone!!!! It's been a few years since I have grown brugs (I guess I should say, since I've had a place to grow brugs!!!), but now I have a brand new yard to play in and I'm so happpy, I'm ready to get some real beauties...oh, did I mention I'm oh-so-excited to get some brugs again? YAY!!!! I've been looking around online, and there sure are lots of amazing new ones out there, I'm loving it! but now my dilemma is: I can't decide which ones I love the most, so I thought I'd ask you all..... if you could only have 2 or 3 plants, which would you choose? and why? (oh okay, maybe 4 or 5??, I know how it is!!!)
your all-time favorite brug??
here's my favorites:
painted lady - both for the rich deep pink color and the profusion of blooms with long twangers
new orleans lady - oh the scent!! double that opens cream and turns orange
snowbank - average flowers, but the most beautiful variegated (tricolor) foliage, slow grower so stays on the short side for us here
Daydreams, Fascination, Meadow Princess, Creamsickle, Painted Lady..... or anything that is currently blooming.
Oh, fun.. glad you didn't say 1...So far,
Maya-heat resistant, heavy bloom count flushes and foliage,
Peach Versi-heat resistant and multiple flushes thru out the growing season-intoxicating heavy scent, Antique Lace-compact size, lovely bloom form, almost constantly in bloom, sweetly scented and did I mention compact size?
I'm fortunate to have some growing I haven't seen blooms on yet, so this is subject to change..
I like most of the tried & true oldies. Most doubles do not bloom enough and often look hideous here. So after 6 or so years of growing & trying different brugs (I currently grow about 30 now) these are my favorite for number of blooms, pest resistance, vigor and scent:
Maya
Star Dancer
Charles Grimaldi
Dr Seuss (but bugs love it)
Cypress Gardens
Versi's Peach & Orange
Golden Lady
Valley Misty Pink
Donna's Monster White
Not as heavy scented, but vigorous bloomers:
Pink Beauty
Kyles Pink
Due to the drought here, many of mine just have not bloomed well. Normally I'd have Gypsy Queen, Island Girl & Velvet Rose on my list.
Shown L to R: Dr Seuss, Island Girl, Kyles Pink last year
Isabella because she never stops blooming
Velvet Rose, intense pink blooms and every one is perfect
Apricot Reise, bloms all the time, very frangrant,
Naughty Nick, it is just a fun brug, grows huge, and a heavy bloomer.
There are many more, but would not want to be without these.
Miss Emily Mckenzie.. huge constant blooms, awesome scent, no cats!
Creamsicke blooms in the heat, cold.. no bugs..
Peanut.. just too cute.. blooms good too
Whiskers if you can stand the cat damage.. the scent is the absolute best!
My favorites:
'Day Dreams' - beautiful blooms & nice fragrance!
'New Orleans Lady' - wonderful fragrance & I like the two-tone color!
'Creamsickle' - a smell so nice I can't describe it! :)
'Pink Perfektion' - I like the the longer skirts & deep pink color!

Vi and Joyce so nice to see you here. I have not seen either of you in a long time.
Hi Brenda, life's been tough, trying to see daylight again. Please say Hi to all our pals for me.
Vi
Hello all,
I'm new to Brugs and new to this forum, but I agree on the Versi-peach: absolutely intoxicating fragrance! I can't help it, I'm addicted to sniffing the blooms, lol!
Welcome robcoreia! Pretty! Pretty Pics! I can almost smell em! It's nice to see everyone here! ZZ - had SO much fun this summer and it's still going on! ;) only 1 be-heading from brugs toppling in winds this fall.. getting ready for some big flushes as the weather holds...
Yep those are the ones I like also. Throw in Adora that I didn't see mentioned.
thanks so much for your input, you listed really good ones that I have had before, and a few I need to look up. I am like a kid in a candy shop, dreaming of all those blooms. I'm going to pop over to ebay to see what seeds/cuttings are available....thank you all again!!!!
King's Orange (aurea)
Goldenes Kornett (aurea)
Elizabeth ( aurea)
Peace ( aurea)
Rothkirch ( aurea)
Columbia ( aurea)
Langenbuscher Garten ( double orange...the best ever)
And a few more wild specimens in my collection...thats it for the aurea group at least ; )
The picture of course is what I hope is going to be the best in the sanguinea group....
From the first season with the angels I must say it is Andrew's Gold! Just because it would great in this heat and dry sommer of ours. Then I am facinated by EVERY Bloom I get. Next year I might have favorites. I hope not. Cause I want to love them all equally!
Eric I hope your wish will come true!
