Emergency - Have Daffodil Bulbs want to plant in planters

Crestview, FL

I received 40 bulbs of Daffodils today, 10 Narcissus Classic and Cutting Edge ones, 20 Narcissus Perennial Daffodil Mix, and 10 Narcissus Dutch Masters, with about 100 more on the way of a mixture of them. Here's the game plan: I have a deck (30 x 12) with planter boxes that I can put planters inside of. I have made sure the pots have good drainage holes in them. Now, I need to plant these things. Can anyone take me step by step through this process please? I want to leave them in pots as they will line the deck. Should I use potting soil? Should I use fertilizer? What kinds and how much and what else do I need to know. I need this information yesterday.

Are the bulbs pre-chilled? I think they need a period of very low temps in order to grow in your area. Maybe somebody else from Florida could give you some advice. Try the Florida forum http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/region_fl/all/

It is definitely not suggested to pre-chill daffodils in the deep south for naturalizing. An excellent guide for the varieties that do well in the deep south (and they must be early blooming varieties) is 'Daffodils in Florida: A Field Guide to the Coastal South' by Van Beck and Van Beck.

The bulbs will be getting the natural chill they need come this month, it was 40 degrees a couple of nights ago and we are headed into the fall and winter season, so it will get quite chilly here in NW Florida, I'm about 65 miles out of Pensacola, a lot different type weather than central Florida and Southern Florida.
