Horses & Roses

Hi - I have a vision of climbing roses on my horse barn...which my hubby veto'ed. Apparantly he thinks roses are too old-fashioned, doesn't want anything by the barn but a live oak, and says the horses would eat it anyway. Does anyone know if horses eat roses and if there is anyway to keep them from it?? I am determined to prove him wrong - I think roses are making a come-back and would look so bueatiful creeping up the wall of the barn!! Thanks!
