Hello from Siskiyou County, newbie to these pages

Gastonia, NC(Zone 7b)

Hi gardeners,

I just moved to this area of the country and I am preparing to learn what for me will be a whole new way of gardening. I've known of this website for a while but this is the first I have felt I might have the time to participate much. Hope to learn a lot and maybe even meet some other gardeners who know about this kind of climate and zone, very dry, high, and cold.....

plus which I imagine this winter I will have time to sit here and write and think about gardening..... ;-)

ciao,

Welcome aboard from the east coast. You WILL meet some great people and they will have lots to share with you. Make sure you check out alot ot the different forums, even from regions not close to you. I have been amazed at the amount of info I've gleaned since June. Happy gardening.

Yep, winter is a great time to plan your new gardens.
Jan is right, there are plenty of folks here willing to help out anytime you have a question.

Tokyo, Japan(Zone 10a)

Hi and welcome to DG. Not able to be of any help in your climate region as mine is the exact opposite hot humid very wet, just a few feet above sea level {Japan). I'm sure you will get a lot of very good advice on this site, as I have. With a great friendly
bunch of folks.

Thank you! I spent hours here and related sites yesterday...... much inspired. Pajonica, wow, that sounds like the climate I just moved from, in coastal NC, it was 10 feet above sea level and humid and warm nearly all year. I honestly have to say I like the dry air here. But big difference in how to relate to gardening......

Hey, Jan -- thanks for the suggestion, I am exploring happily. ;-)

Libellule, I am delighted to have found the Winter Sowing info, speaking of winter......

Welcome aboard. You have joind a HUGE family.

No matter what your interests - there is probably a Forum here on DG for it.

Don't hesitate to post and ask questions - we are all out to help each other.

Googled to see where Weed,CA is - Northern CA. You will have to post some pictures so we can all see what you're up to.

I would love to post some pix but do not have the wherewithal..... I am hoping my descriptions will be worth a snapshot or two.... been out there working on it today. ;-) I'm enjoying some of the (presumably) small town names, Wappingers falls, Missouri City, etc...... thanks for the welcome y'all.

San Francisco Bay Ar, CA(Zone 9b)

Welcome Kyla! I lived in Mt. Shasta for several years as a teen, and we had a wonderful garden up there. I even successfully grew a few watermelons, even though people told me it couldn't be done ;-). I used to know Weed pretty well since I went to school there for a bit as well. You have a challenging climate, but at the same time I'm guessing you will have lots of options :-).

Thanks, Sunny..... glad to hear about those melons. Apparently they grow around here too as I have seen a neighbor bring big ones to my closer neighbors at least twice.... One of my early fave garden books was one by good old Ruth Stout who did a fine job of teaching me that you can very safely ignore most of what "they" say "can't be done." LOL!

I'm blogging about my new garden patch, have two entries so far. Once I get a vehicle so much will be easier, and I am jazzed, I think I have a line on a little truck that would be perfect..... going to go look for the car forum, see if I can get any good advice. ;-)
