I left my camera at my in-laws! So I hope you can go with what I remember...
This bird was sparrow-sized, maybe a little bigger. it was chestnut-colored on its head and back -- I'm pretty sure it was continuous, no break in color at the nape. It was buff-colored on its underside, I think from the throat all the way down to the belly. There was a prominent white eyestripe, and it held its shortish tail high, and there were no streaks or spots. the beak was thin, definitely not a sparrow or finch.

Hmm, I don't remember the barring on the tail and wings, but everything else about this bird matches what I remember. Must be! Maybe it was a young'un, so the barring wasn't as pronounced. Thanks so much for the help!
