First bloom from seed grown brug

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

Just have to share. I'm just so tickled. I started seed from a cross that was offered on the forum in 2006 by BettyDee.
The cross is Audrey Hepburn x either Solid gold or Rosamond.
This is the first of 6 or so plants to bloom and I was just so thrilled to find it was a double. Heavenly soft fragrance too.

Thank you again for sharing your seeds BettyDee.

You got a double from two single parents? Wonder what the grandparents were. LOL Life is like a box of chocolates ..

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Joy, Congratulations! She is beautiful. I hope she continues to produce doubles for you. I wouldn't have believed a double from two singles. I know the pod parent was Audrey Hepburn. She was the only one that produced pods that year. Audrey Hepburn is one of Eric Knight's Brugs. Apparently, he didn't provide the parents for her in the Brug Register. Not much information is provided for Solid Gold except that the breeding set is insignis. Rosamond's parents are Rothkirch and Ocre. Mary, there is one other possibility. I had one double in my collection: Creamsickle. She did bloom around that time. It's possible she provided the pollen.

Joy, next year if she continues to produce doubles, I would appreciated having some cuttings from her.

Creamsickle is one of my favorites! Maybe there was a sneaky moth or bee. LOL If so, they picked well. Looks like it's a pretty baby.

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

Veronica, Of course! I'd be happy to send you some cuttings next year. I do hope she keeps doubling. I have other doubles, but none have bloomed for me yet. So seeing this one bloom was very exciting!
Next year I'll be sure to give these babies and all my brugs better care than they got this year too. My gardens have grown so large I'm overwhelmed with trying to keep up. Anything that required extra attention didn't get it this year. That probably accounts for my first Brug blooms starting the end of September this year. So many haven't bloomed at all yet. I'm hoping for a very late first freeze.
One year I still had a brug blooming in early January but that was a very mild and rare winter.

Thanks. She is isn't she. I just want to stand outside and stare at her all day. LOL
I think the surprises you get from seed makes it that much more exciting and special when they bloom. I'm just tickled to death. :-)

I know it's tricky sending seeds abroad, but anyone knows of a good web-site for Brugmansias seeds? Or any members have a few I could try? I can always get an import licence. Thanks

Wow! Very nice Lavender. Your's looks so big and healthy too.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

So does yours! Great growing Joy!!!
Trinnie...if you go to the brugmansia forum I am sure you can ask for some seeds. You can look in the trade lists too. Someone sent me mine so I have none to share or I would for sure. If you go to the thread in Brugmansias "She is about too..." I am sure our group would hook you up!

Once again Joy...lovin that baby of yours! Post some more pics as they age and more open.

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

Today she looks like she's turning white. But it's so blistery out right now, I won't venture out for any photos until it settles down.

Lavender,
How long did it take yours to flower from seed? Mine took 2 years but I'm thinking with more attention (regular fertilizer etc) it may have bloomed sooner?

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

mine were sprouted last winter(2008) and a dg'er sent me the tiny baby in June. Now blooming. One of the other ones she sent me is budding as well. I have a seedling of my own I sprouted in march that just Y'd...hopefully I will see some buds in the sunroom when I move them in. I gave away all but two of my seedlings..one is 7ft tall (the one that y'd) smooth leaves and the other is five foot tall and has very toothed leaves. Kept it because it was different from all the rest. This is the brug forest in August..you can see the toothed leaved one in front. My DH is 6ft tall and they shot up another foot plus since then.
