Well that certainly looks like an inviting spot, skylon.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

I went to Vancouver this last summer and saw Stanley Park. It knocked my socks off, it was so beautiful! For some reason it does not appear to be well advertised. I told my husband we have to go again.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

allgr8dogs, come to Vancouver Island and visit Buchart Gardens. It's amazing.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

I didn't allow enough time for Buchart Gardens, but after my DH finishes his chemo therapy we want to go there to celebrate. We want to go fishing too. We found the whole area to be just gorgeous. Vancouver looks so futuristic.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

I hope you and your husband will be able to visit soon. You need an inflatable boat to be able to see all of the hidden beaches on the Island. There are soooo many that are not accessible by regular boats that require a dock, etc.

Of course, fishing is another story, as far as boat design goes.... LOL!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

My DH will probably have another year of chemo, but after that we are going to travel and celebrate. We hope to spend a couple of weeks in the area seeing things and enjoying life.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

Sorry to hear about your husband. I hope everything works out beautifully and that you have a fantabulistic holiday! ;-)

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Just saw your post, I'm also from Canada, (N.B.).

Just ran across this thread now, and I'm from Calgary, Alberta...

Almost spring here, yippee!!

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

stunning pictures.. both of you! I live with heat stress on all my plants. It is a pleasure to see such happy, healthy green plants. Thank you for the pictures. Beautiful

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

Well, we should have a brugmansia trade this year for all of us Canadians!

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

We're not a big bunch on DG now. A lot have dropped out.
Which brug do you have Teresa?
I've ordered 2 from Brugmansia Quebec. Had a hard time to decide on which one to get. I wanted some doubles. Now I can't remember which one I ordered, can't find the receipt.
They sent me some really nice healthy plant, last year.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

burn_2007, I ordered some brugs from Brugmansia Quebec last November and have an order coming this spring as well. In November, Dany sent me Aurea White, Versi Peach, Insignis Solid Gold, Yellow Suaveolens, Savannah, Angel Glory and Full Rosea. In the spring, he'll be sending Ecuador Pink, Shooting Star, Miss Emily MacKenzie and Kongmansia. He sends fantastic plants!

I also have an order coming from Liz at Brugmansiaetc. Hopefully, she'll send Superose, Belcarra, Herbstgold, Herstlicht and Whirly Girl. She has some super stuff!

I created a "Brugmansia" folder in my email and drag and drop all information along with receipts into that file for easy reference.

Brandon, Canada

Hi! Theresa! I would be interested in getting some Brugs. but I am unaware of a source in Quebec/. Would you be able to send me his address or website. Thanks . Greg

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

Greg, I sent you a Dmail.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

That's a good idea Teresa, I will have to think of that next time.
Wow you have a lot of brugs, and getting some more as well.
I finally found my receipt today, how it landed in my bedroom, in the bookcase, is a mystery to me. What I've ordered is Herrenhausser Garten, and Mountain Magic.
I have the X Candida yellow, picture up on this thread and Frosty pink, a noid white and Charles Grimaldi. Charles Grimaldi didn't flower for me yet, but I expect it will this Summer. I kept it going in the house over winter. All my other ones are in the basement in semi dormant state. Am hoping to take them out soon.
Buttercup do you have any Brugs? If you do what do you have?

Oh gosh, burn_2007, I have more that that.

Funnily enough I received my very first Frosty Pink cuttings last year.

We really should try to put a Canadian Brug exchange in place. ;-)

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

I'd be willing to exchange some. But I don't have, that great a variety as you can see. Only started last year. I'm sure you have all the ones I have.:))
Do you know anyone else, that might be interested?

chilliwack, BC(Zone 8b)

I would definitely be interested in an exchange. I'm up to about 50 varieties now but there is always room for a couple more!
Jim

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

WOW Jim! Your collection is really growing.

chilliwack, BC(Zone 8b)

I think its more of an addiction than a collection, I seem to have that problem with all sorts of plants.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

Methinks it's one of the more wonderful addictions! ♥

Addiction = collection

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

You two are going to put me in trouble. Where will I find the room!!!

Calgary, Canada

burn_2007 - I have a lot of crossed cuttings that are just waking up and starting to grow now that it's spring and the sun is shining. Probably 20 or so, with Taylor's Dawn, Snowbank and Shredded white off the top of my head. I bought a lot of seeds last year as well, but have had zero success in germination. I used to work in a conservatory and I grew EVERTYTHING from seed with no problem. Had a propagation table that cuttings just loved to root in as well, so now I'm having to backtrack and try to remember how this worked before I was spoiled! I've ordered some of the plants from Quebec as well, so it's great to hear that they have nice looking plants.

I have a plant addiction myself - epiphyllum, bougainvillia, cacti and succulents, ficus, etc. etc. I ran out of room so long ago that when I put everybody outside for the summer it's like living in an empty place!

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Buttercup, the ones you mentioned, are really nice. I like the Shredded White, because it's unusual. and the Taylor's Dawn, lovely pink color. Snowbank variegated leaves. So interesting..
I've started the Sanguinea from seeds once, they germinated, but lost them, to over nurturing, I'm terrible with seedlings.
I can't wait to put my plants outdoors, they are taking, a lot of room here too. I only have one small room, with a sunny window, and my seedlings are all competing for the little sun we get. I have fluorescent light going in here and down the basement for my brugs and callas and Cannas, that I've recently received in trade. And that's beside my other houseplants that I have.

Calgary, Canada

I know exactly what you mean! Now that everything is starting to grow, I end up toting 5 gallon pails of melted snow water upstairs to water and the plants in my bedroom drink over 15 gallons alone! Backbreaking, messy, and labour intensive! This is the first winter I've collected snow to melt for the plants and it has worked out extremely well - for the plants - it's been work work work for the human. Before the last of the snow melted I ran around the condo complex filling every bucket I could find and now have lots of buckets of water standing on my patio. The neighbours all think I'm nuts, I'm sure. Got a lot of aphids at the moment - in my bedroom, of course! So I'll be having to start spraying the little green devils! I do okay for light, as most of my windows face due West. Sadly, no windows on the south side. Must have been built by a non-gardener for sure! Evicting all the plants to the great outdoors for the summer is a very happy day in my condo!

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

alittle dishwashing soap in a spray bottle with some precise spray control will give you a great head start on the green devil pest control. If you have it available. I have learned that for some reason Joy brand seems to work best for me. Don't know why. I use this method for all spot control of aphids inside and out. I keep a bottle handy for when I am walking my yard and do 'spot shots' whenever I see any and they little dead black devils the next day.

I admire you keeping your babies going so well that far north.

Calgary, Canada

Lhasa, I laughed when I read 'that far north' because to us that would be Alaska or the NWT. When I read your address it made perfect sense though. Everything remotely tropical ends up being a houseplant that holidays outside for the summer. I always have to keep that in mind when I find something I want that looks like it will grow up to be Very Large. Oh how I wish I had room for a greenhouse.

I have 3 Pohlownia Tomentosa (Royal Empress tree) that have shot up 2' in the last month already. I've read that they sometimes grow more than 6' in a year and now I'm getting a tad nervous about where they are going to fit come fall... Maiybe where my bed currently is, and I'll have to string a hammock between them! Lol.

I do use the dish soap trick - it works even better if you add a bit of mineral oil to it.

Burn, I know exactly what you mean about the seedlings. I absolutely suck at the beginning parts of growing. They either die of thirst or get damp-off. I can't stand the smell of No Damp, so I end up trying to do without until it's too late.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I have to move the plants inside for winter also.. even though I live so much farther south but we get temps into the 20's and teens here sometimes in winter. Most nights are freezing or below in the winter but luckily, our winters are short with very little snow.

Calgary, Canada

Although I complain and moan about our awful winters along with everybody else, I actually like the rest it gives me from weeding and watering. Where I am we get Chinooks, so at times in the winter it will warm up into the 'teens, melt all the snow and be springlike for days at a time. This is a holiday from winter, but the rapid thaw/freeze is really hard on plants and the soil dries right out. Amazing how the temperature can change so drastically in such a short time though.

Can you grow cacti where you are with the winter snow?

Toronto, Canada

Hello everyone:
I am brand new. Grew a few Wal-Mart Noids last year. They were amazing, and now I am smitten. I am in Toronto.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Hi Influllbloom, welcome to DG, nice to meet another Canadian. What colors were the flowers on your brugs?

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

I've lost all my brugs over the past winters. At one time I had over 40 plants. I'm slowly starting again this year with some cuttings thanks to some very generous friends. All will have to over winter in the house, so I'm not going over board with plants. At least that's what I say now.... how do you spell addiction???

Nice to see some new canucks.

Linda
