Sick Broiler?!

Clarkson, KY

Okay, so what do I do with this, guys? Lighter weight broiler can't put any weight on left leg! flails miserably... they are due to be butchered Monday. Do I cull now? Kill and eat? Wait till Monday? Never heard of anyone having this trouble with the local hatchery's chicks so SHOULDN'T be Marek's...Any ideas?? Help??

Cull him now....Watch the others for any symptoms...

With a broiler it could just be structurally unsound--I just read a touching storey about a beloved pet Cornish Rock that couldn't walk the last 6 months of its life--even with veterinary treatment. It had a good life as a house chicken then died in its sleep at about 9 months.

this one seems to have hurt itself. I separated it ASAP, and watched it all day. got better and better, eating and drinking...DH thinks it fell off the mini coop...believable as those things are sooo klutzey!!

And thanks, Genrul...I pulled it as soon as you posted...DH made me hide it in a corner.

Me too...but when they are flapping like that, unless you can spot an injury, its best to cull and get them out of misery no matter what caused it...That much flapping can cause more damage than originally done...
Good job on containing it..and I'm glad it wasn't anything worse...
