Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh....I haven't figured out how to get to them yet. Could you grab one and send it to me?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

how bout all of them

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Jaye and Billy are adorable - give them little pats from me!

Sad to say my white serama baby died sometime during the night. I have no idea why, but I'm very sad about it. The black and white one is still fine. I hope it makes it.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Well, I would surely go for that, but C ommander Moxon said only crumbs were left!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

Commander Moxon, my sincere condolences on death of new life form. I am truly sorry

(Zone 7b)

Claire it wasn't the bigger ones smashing her was it or keeping her from food and water the tiny ones are so tender at this stage i wanted to say yesterday it wasn't a good idea to leave the little ones with the big one's.

But i like to let people make choices that suit them and don't ever want to upset anybody to thinkin i'm a know it all.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Thanks Commander Jordan. I guess these things do happen sometimes but it's still hard to figure out what went wrong and for me, anyway, I end up feeling guilty like I should have been able to do something. I'm still a newbie so I guess I have to get used to it. Chicks are fragile.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

Commander Moxon, i am a newbie too. i am afraid to put my 2 in the nursery with cindy and cookie, because cookie is 2 weeks old. i was lucky she don't pick on 3 day old cindy. what is your opinion on this?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Harmony - I guess she might have had previous injuries? I moved the big ones on to a different cage on Wednesday morning. So for the last 2 days she was in the cosy lamp brooder only with her sibling and with the 2 OEG babies which are still much smaller than the other ones and so it wasn't as much of a difference. She seemed fine all day yesterday and she and her sibling were zipping around in there. Then this morning...ugh. I feel awful but I don't know what happened.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Well, I guess my opinion is that maybe I should avoid it. I'm not sure that it was the reason, but I guess I'm not sure that it wasn't. I guess your Cindy was just with Cookie so there was no "stampede" for the food, etc. Maybe it's OK in certain circumstances, especially 1 on 1, but I am not sure. Harmony probably knows best because of her experience.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

harmony, where are you? what should i do?

(Zone 7b)

I want to say this with the utmost respect for all but please keep your little ones seperate from the bigger chicks. You can't be with them 24/7 and it only takes a moment for something to go wrong it's always better to be on the side of caution in these cases.
Another suggestion is to try and place them at the hatch with ones of their own size that they won't be removed from chicks get attached to each other and constantly moveing them here or there they grieve for the ones they were with and bonded too.

Jordan it being only those 2 there shouldn't be a problem but keep a close eye and if they are not going to be together later you should seperate them soon because the longer they stay together the more bonded they will be.

Just a suggestion as grow said it's not written in stone.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

as long as they all get along, they will stay together. i plan on letting them free range in the yard with mom and dad as soon as they are big enough.

(Zone 7b)

I would like to speak here on depression in chickens and it is real.
Chickens Bond to their owners, pen mates, chicks and even their homes and when moved can become depressed just like us humanes when we move or lose a friend.
It's important to recognize this in new chickens and not be too quick to think they are sick.
A new chicken needs to be reasured they are safe in a new enviroment and throwing them into a new pen with chickens they have never seen before is stressful and frightening.
They need time to adjust to the new everything that they have been brought too and they miss and grieve for where they lived and the chickens they were with.
Allow them time to adjust and be exstremmly attentive and welcomeing until they know who you are and where they are and that they are safe.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

good advice harmony, thanks

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I believe that for sure Harmony! The 6 I have left are still not acting like "my" chicks.. They are different. It's like they are like someone took mine and gave me different ones!

(Zone 7b)

They are Depressed ZZ they have lost their loved ones and may be in fear of being next.

Commander Moxon reporting in after having been away 2 days.

Two hatching modules hatched while we were away - a buff orpington and a frizzle.

Today was due date. Overnight last night, 7 more frizzles and a silkie emerged. There are numerous eggs with pips.

Commander Moxon feels slightly overwhelmed by the rapidity and abundance of emergences! Pictures to come later today probably after regular shuttle duties complete.

Clarkson, KY

As long as you never put tangerine elephant eggs in the 'bator, Moxon...I wouldn't put it past you...;-)

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Lieutenant Grownut (I forget your rank at the moment).

Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT reveal information to the masses on the tangerine elephant egg project. I told you that was on a need to know only basis. Now I just don't know if I can trust you any more.

Bring me 50 jelly donuts and I will consider forgiving you.

Hmpf.

Sergeant Williams reporting for duty from the Panther Creek Outpost. I am overwhelmed with joy for you Commander Moxon. I am glad the hatching modules tolerated the Commander being absent for a few days.

Update on the latest project at the Panther Creek Outpost. I purchased a much larger shuttle for hatching modules (80 quart cooler from Walmart). I am in the process of wiring the new shuttle and will post pictures when completed.

Sergeant Williams proceeding to shuttle development room and will check back in for more assigned duties occassionally.

Williams................over and out!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Excellent Sergeant Williams! You are the most productive member of the shuttle crew today and should be proud. Because of your energy and proactive outlook, you are hereby promoted to Captain Williams. Congratulations. This means you can have more jelly donuts. :-)
