New Egg Layers

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

We traveled to Hoover Hatchery in Iowa today to pick up chicks. These are Gold Star. They will lay brown eggs. We want them to go into production in time for Farmers Market next spring. There are 125 of the little girls.

How many eggs do you hope to sell?

Wow Bernie! Very exciting. I have a Red Star hen. But only one...
No gold stars (yet).

We have 20 Production Reds that just started laying, so by spring we are hoping for 9 or 10 dozen a day.
We usually sell all we bring.

Eggcellent...
I never knew what a calling fresh eggs had.. I was getting almost 2 doz a day and starting to build up an overstock, so I put a sigh out front... I cannot believe.. I sold 20 doz in 1 week.. I need more layers.. we may have to consider it next spring.

Congrats on the babies Bernie.. keep us updated.

I just came back to this thread to look at those cute chicks again and i still want to just go sit right in the middle of them.

Harmony, if you go sit in the middle, just make sure you clean off a space.....125 chicks must make alot of poop!! :) They are adorable though, aren't they!!!
