Preparing for Winter (what to put in these planters)

Frisco, TX(Zone 7b)

These are two planters of mine in the back yard. We are zone 7b. I am prepping these for winter flowers. I have done the pansy route. They are okay, but the rabbits eat them up and, frankly, I am a little tired of them.

There are daffodil bulbs underneath - some Jewish paperwhites, etc. that may come up again.

I was going to do some cyclamens (I love them) but they are expensive. Enzo (the black Lab) likes to dig them up. Those are the only flowers he messes with. Kinda odd.

These flowers in the picture come up this weekend or next. Any suggestions on replacements for the winter?

- I also have a wall planter that gets no light in the winter that I would like to put something attractive.

Thanks
WJ

Calendulas, snapdragons and anemones all bloom during the winter here but we are a bit warmer.

I recently saw a beautiful planter in full shade that was planted with different varieties of ajuga and a Japanese Painted fern; wish I had had my camera that day, it was gorgeous.

If you have rabbits in the area, you might try some type of herb like oreagno in with whatever you plant to confuse them. I looked on the web for rabbit resistant plants for my sister and remember that one.
