Here it is almost Oct and I think I see an inflo on my Pam's Pink. Could it be? My temps right now are hi 80s in day and lo 60s in the evening, Houston area.
What has been the latest date you've gotten an inflo
PLENTY more new inflos here too. The key is whether you will be able to enjoy the blooms. Some inflos will hang on over the winter, others will abort (but as a bonus the plant will branch for you nonetheless).
This all depends on your fall temperatures. I have had blooms at Christmas nearly every year. Yes, outside, in the ground. The joys of zone 10!!
Pictured is delightful Donna S (a little muted) on the 14th of December last year.
My cerise blooms in Sept every year whereas some others bloom in spring or early summer. I'm thinking some might just be later bloomers than others, anyone know for sure?
Hey Nery! I'm finding inflo's all the time too. I'm thinking that I will set up a portable greenhouse or two so that I can see them bloom this winter. Some are cultivars that are first-time bloomers for me, and others are five-year-old seedlings that are first-time bloomers. It's a long time to wait to not see them bloom so that's when the greenhouse comes in very handy. It's not so much to protect my plumies from freezing because it doesn't free here; it's so that they will continue to bloom in the heat of the greenhouse.
Here is Dr. Richard Criley Rainbow today, which just started blooming:
thanks for the replies. If I indeed have an inflo on P. Pink, this is the first time it blooms for me. Hmmm, I didn't realize there was early, mid and late blooming on plumies. Thanks again for the good info.
Note: Not Pam's Pink, Paula's Pink
Nery, you just never know. Some consistently bloom late or early in the season, but you can have a late-bloomer one year that blooms early the next year. These crazy trees just want to do their own thing!
I have 5 new inflos all on different plants!! Yippee!!
