Next summer I want to expand the number of tropical plants I have in patio pots out back. I want some bigger plants which are unfortunately pretty pricey. It seems like they are all on sale now! Is there harm to buying them now and storing in the garage over winter?

I'd take the risk, depending on how pricey they are right now.

I agree with LouC if the price is right now I would go ahead and give it a try but then I am always up for things on sale anyway.
But with them being tropicals I would make sure they didn't get a cold blast (below 50) when the garage door opened if it gets that cold ..
Think of it this way...if you had paid full price for them earlier this season you would still be trying to find a way to store them. Go ahead buy those beauties.
