Can Daffodil Bulbs be planted in planters in zone 8B?

Crestview, FL

I live in NW Florida and am going to get some daffodil bulbs soon. Can I plant the bulbs in planters year round? I like them in planters instead of in the beds or naturally in the yard. When should I plant the bulbs and when will they come up for me here in NW Florida?

joy, I think daffs should be fine in containers left outdoors in your zone. Make sure the potting mix gets excellent drainage, I wouldn't recommend the moisture retentive types. Some daffodil varieties do better in southern zones than others, so how well they perennialize will be somewhat dependant on what varieties you've ordered. Brent&Becky's site tells which varieties perform best in southern gardens. Fall, when the ground has cooled, is the time to plant spring flowering bulbs.

gemini sage: I bought about 45 from Easy to Grow and 47 from Breck's, a variety from each place; so, will have about 6 different types. Was told to plant as soon as possible and to water and then leave alone unless they looked dry and to try and keep in the shade. The Fall and winter will be what makes them grow in the Spring or so I was told. I planted mine in potting soil with fertilizer and bone meal added to the soil and mixed in then added the bulb and covered it with the soil and watered.

GeminiSage: I think I got my bulbs planted just in time, we got hit with about 3 days of 30 - 40 degree weather already. I'm anticipating a bright deck this Spring/Summer, I planted about 90 bulbs!!!!
