Finally saw my 1st bloom

And oh how good that thing still smells.
My night blooming cyrus finally had a bloom I could watch. It bloomed Sat. night I went in to check it out every 30 minutes. Boy was it a beauty and smelled so good. No one told me the smell could linger a few days. I may ask a friend to post it on line for me so you all can see it.

Can you tell I am still excited.

Lavina, Oooh I would love to see a photo! I can't wait for my night blooming cereus to bloom! I am hoping by next year it will be big enough. Wow, and the fragrance lasts a couple of days? That is wonderful! Do you grow yours indoors all year or do you put it outside during the summer? I think I'm going to have to move mine inside so I won't miss it when it does bloom! Did the flower stay open during the day?

Isn't it exciting to finally get to see a bloom on a plant? I hope you can get your friend to upload a picture!

Lin it started opening about 7;30PM was in full bloom at 12:30 at 5 was completely drooped and closed again, but the smell has lingered. It was outdoors from April till Sept. when I saw a bud and moved it indoors. The 1st bloom I missed due to Hanna's arrival.LOL If we had had another hurricane I would have took it to the shelter with me. I was determine not to miss this last bloom.

Lavina, Isn't it exciting? I have a very large Epi Hookeri that sits under a tree out in the backyard. It is way too large to bring into the house and I've had this plant for more than 30 years and had never seen it bloom until a couple of weeks ago! I made up my mind when I saw buds I was going to go out every hour and check it. It was so exciting to finally get to see those blooms! I would go out every hour with the flashlight and camera in hand to see if the blooms were open yet. They are such amazing plants! My E. hookeri does not have any fragrance that I could detect. I can't wait for the night blooming cereus to set buds so I can see that one, and smell the wonderful fragrance!

Please don't laugh but it took 7 years for it to bloom from the time it was planted.
Hubby has on that has been in the family over 100 years and has not bloomed in 10. I am gonna give it some go juice and see if that helps. He said it is different from mine that just bloomed.

Now I know why they have partys when these flowers bloom.

Congratulate. They are so worth the lost sleep.
