African Daisy, Cape Daisy 'Astra Pink Yellow' (Osteospermum ecklonis)
This is not a photo of Sunadora® Palermo. Sunadora® Palermo has a different flower shape and the colour is pale yellow and peach. This can be verified on the Sunadora® website and the Osteospermum website: http://www.sunadora.com and http://www.osteospermum.com
I'm definitely open to the possibility that the plant was mislabeled, but the plant is in bloom now (I was just looking at it yesterday) and the flowers look just like the pictures on the two websites. I'll see if I can get another picture of it, but most days I'm not home from work early enough to catch it in good lighting so it may be the weekend before I'm able to. I think the lighting when I took the picture made the color look a little washed out and the flowers were starting to close up for the day which is why the flower shape looks a little different. Also last fall when it was blooming the flowers did tend to have more pinkish color in them, vs now in the spring they're much yellower--not sure if it's a temperature effect or something else (if you look at the picture on the Osteospermum site, you'll see that it looks a lot pinker than the picture on the Sunadora website so there definitely does seem to be some variability in color--either real or due to photo conditions)
ecrane are these an annual or perrenial for you??? I bought one this year but not sure it will survive our South Texas heat come late summer.
They're perennials here. They typically stop blooming in the heat of summer but that's the only problem I've ever seen from heat. I don't know how they hold up to heat + humidity though, plus your average summer highs are probably a bit hotter than mine. I have seen some frost damage on occasion with the ones that I have that are in less sheltered positions, but I have yet to lose one over the winter either.
I think the osteospermum in the photo looks like Osteospermum Astra Pink Yellow. I'll attach a photo of it for you to compare. When you look at the centre of the flower you can see that this is also very different to Sunadora Palermo (see photo underneath my previous message!). It's most likely that labels have been switched, because the Astra series as well as the Sunadora series in the US originate from the same producer .
That one does look more like mine--and I know the nursery I bought it from had Astra Pink Yellow as well. I guess maybe they just had all the tags switched around. Can't remember what their Astra Pink Yellow looked like now but maybe that was the real Palermo. I'll ask admins to move it to the right place.
The photo has been moved. Thanks!
