If you want hummers around, just plant one of these. This has to be a favorite of theirs. They are always flying around this bush.

Great shots!!

I wish i'd see more hummers here. I saw 1 last year, but nothing this year. I see more in Wisconsin than i do here in N. IL.

what bush is that, btw?

Firebush, Hamelia patens . Has to be one of their favorites. When it is in bloom, there is at least one hummer there continuosly. I have been tempted to plant a whole row of them to see how many birds I can get. And it blooms continuously for several months.

It looks like the dwarf version of this plant is what I'm looking for to put in a pot on my deck for the hummers. I love the bright colors and I always have lots of hummers here. I always say you can't have too many plants for these beautiful birds.

Hope it will be able to take the wind we sometimes have in the spring. You have a cute hummer!

Firebush also brings in the Zebra Longwings. Don't know why but they love it!

That's true. Butterflies and hummers both like those...I have two of them. Right now I have a whole bunch of Lions Ears blooming...too many volunteers came up this year, don't know how many I had to pull up, but plenty. And the butterflies and hummers both like to nectar on them. Still, the main attraction for the butterflies right now is Frostweed and there's a lot of them by the dry creek.
