Zone 7a-b // When to transition to indoors?

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Hi all!
My hoyas have been so happy on the deck and now the weather changes (dern it all!)
I bring them in when temps are getting into the 50s @ night, but then back up to 70 - 80* frequently for many days in a row,(maybe weeks) that I take them back out for the fresh air and humidity.
Which do you think is worse.: the changing back and forth, or as much of the good outdoor weather as available (which is pretty much what I try to give all my houseplants). Only bringing them inside when ablolutely necessary.
For sure, once the night temps are regularly saying below 55-60* I bring em in for good.
Does that sound like a good plan for Hoya also? It has worked well for my 7-8 yr old Carnosa., but have a few new additions to the Hoya clan.
LOl, I feel like a new mom that has never been around a baby before, now that I have a few more and am learning more about this wonderful and unique plant,. I've suddenly lost all sense of knowing what to do.
i've been reading and reading lots of wonderful info available, but this has me stumped. Maybe I should flip a coin.

Carnosas can take the cool better than alot of others....I would bring them indoors....my .000002cents after the bailout!

LOl.....Your .000002 cents! You are too funny
Thanks lots! Wow , i am so inspired and impressed by some of your articles. and you even have a business shipping H.'s. As I become a little more familiar(just joined in July) with some of you I will understandbetter. Gain better perspective, I guess. I immagine you really to find repeated questions tedious and probably come across the same ones day after day.
Hopefully more intelligent questions will be coming from this end as I mature in m knowledge of this great plant.

Blessings and Aloha!

No worries, Sheri. When you do change location of your plants....it's a good idea to make the change in increments (I am told....). Just like when receiving a plant/cutting that has been shipped to you (riding around in a dark box) it's a good idea to bring it into normal light slowly...so that the plant can adjust it's own systems.

HAHA...my sister left her H. lacunosa outside in Montana when she went on a trip and it snowed. The plant was fine. This is something I would not try without parental supervision!

We are getting into the 50s at night and I am starting to bring in my way too many Hoyas. Only problem they have really grown over summer, much more than I realized. Some have put on 6' to 8' runners which are wrapped around everything. I have been carefully untwining them but do ocasionaly get a bend in the stem. There are lots of buds forming at the ends of some of these "runners:" and I hate to lose the potential blooms.

So, my question...Is it best to trim these runners rather than try to untangle? I know that I would lose the flowers if I do that. But could take some cuttings. for more plants to get tangled. LOL

I know this information is in some of the wonderful threads but I am running out of time and hope someone can advise without me having to read all the information right now.

Betty...probably up to you. If the vines are new and tender, they probably won't bloom this season...If i break a vine I will usually cut it 'cause it is 'cut' anyway... cutting the very ends is like pinching....they might fork there.... Depends on how much time you have to spend....isn't going to hurt the plant!!!

Hey Betty!! ~waving from north FL instead of Huntsville~ I am SO glad you asked that question! Mine grew like gangbusters over the summer and now I have these gangly, reaching-out-to-grab-EVERYthing plants that will have to come indoors soon. End of summer with shortening days isn't supposed to be the best time of year to take cuttings, so... what to do?

Oops.. missed your post, Carol.

Thank You Carol :~))
I just have 10 more to go. Woo Hoo. I have been hanging them in my little "Already Full" GH. Each time I walk with another one I bump some of the already hanging plants just a little bit. The fan is running and the gentle breeze is moving the plants just a little bit. LOL You guessed it they are already getting tangled. I think it is time to trim. In self defense if nothing else. LOL

Hey Barb, Is Florida home now???

I wasn't bringing in mine until the lows were about 45. Now they can't be outside, so everyone is in their winter home
