Butterfly Brew and the Bees

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I have become fascinated with these bees on my butterfly brew. I didn't know where else to post this picture, but wanted to share.

oooo, that is awesome Mrs. Ed. I don't know much about bees, except they are great pollinators. Hate those yellow jackets, though

I do too, I got stung by one this year while watering a pot. Guess who made a nest under the pot!

In the morning there are usually some yellow jackets out there, but once the sun is on this brew, the honeybees show up. And for hearing so much about the decline of honeybees, I'm glad to see these fuzzballs.

Mrs_Ed,

So glad to see those honey bees. They are truly on the decline here. We've had a few cases of killer bee attacks so now everytime someone sees a bee hive they think it's bad and call in the fire dept. to eliminate them.

I used to get them on my hummie feeders but over the years their numbers have dwindled. Of course, lots of the surrounding land that was once used for crops has been turned into new subdivisions...no more bees boxes to be seen.

I don't mind bees at all...but won't tolerate yellow jackets. As soon as I see a nest being built on my eaves or elsewhere I'll knock it down.

I have a friend who raises honeybees so when all of his friends see a honeybee hive they call him in and he puts boxes on their property. I love those bumblebees too.

Here's a closeup
