I started the seeds in peat pellets that I placed in styrofoam cups. I put holes in the bottom of the cups for drainage. I then put a piece of plastic wrap on top and put them in a bright, but not direct sunlight. They sprouted in a few days. Enjoy. thanks, julie
Please send your addy. julie

Thank for the advce on growing them. I had them in peat pelets with the mini green house on top of the fridge and nothing has happened. Will try your method and see what results i get.

If you get a yellow fruited one (edulis flavacarpa) you will need a different variety to pollinate it. It can be pollinated with caerula or a purple fruited type. Most of the purple fruited varieties are self pollinating.

AngelTree Thank you for your advice. I have the alata-caerula & lady margaret that are going well and bloom great so far this year could I polinate with either of those?

O also I got some cutting sto root off the neighbors incense would that work , is the fruit good? She told me I could come a nd pick fruit anytime it was on the vine and its eating her property..

Thanks for your advice

alto- caerula is not a good pollinator and is usually sterile. Lady Margaret produces pollen but I am not sure that is an edible type. I'm guessing not. It would be better to pollinate with an edible pollinator like caerulea or any of the purple fruited varieties. There are others that would work as well. Not all passionfruit are edible and some are toxic- they all need to be very ripe before eating.
This is an excellent site to learn about passiflora.

Hi guys, I'm sorry to intrude, but I really need this info! I am growing 2 edulis flavacarpa side by side, and also a Passiflora Violacea. Is that enough to get the edulis pollinated or do I still need to buy the purple fruit one? How does this work?
Thanks!

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

I had very good luck starting P. edulis flavicarpa from seed this year. I think everyone grew. I have not gotten blooms yet so I hope for them next year. If you really want to know more about Passifloras fo over to the Passiflora forum. There are very knowledgeable people there.

I actually already posted this question there a while ago but got no replies...: )

If the violaccea produces pollen it might work. I think it has caerulea in the genes.
I haven't ever tried it so I don't know for sure. Another option: You can save and trade passiflora pollen if you don't have the plant you need.

Donna I forgot to tell you that I tried the Incense fruit, it was sort of sweet but mine didn't have very much pulp to it. Maybe it is just my plant but all the fruit seem that way. Taste is a matter of preference though. You should use whatever tastes good to you.

GW also has a good passie forum.
