solar power water pumps and winter

Lilburn, GA

Hi,

I am looking to get a small solar power pump for my very small pond. It is just the size of a half barrel and plastic.

I have googled and found some but the instructions say that these pumps should be taken out of the pond and stored indoors during the winter.

Is this the rule for solar power pumps? I want one especially to use during the winter so the birds can bathe.

Does anyone know of a good CHEAP solar pump for a small pond that can be used during winter?

thank you.:o)

What kind of winter weather do you have? I think that those instructions or really meant for folks like me that have brutal winters where everything freezes solid for weeks at a time. A solar pump just would not be able to handle that. If you just have cold rather than freezing weather I would say that it should be fine outdoors during the winter.

Hi tetley,

the winters here are very mild. Maybe some frosty days but it thaws pretty quickly when the sun comes out.

I will try one then.

Thank you for your help.:)
