Are there any passis with sweet tasting fruit. I only have the one to go by and it is tart.
Passion Fruit Taste Comparison
Where is everyone? Hasn't anyone eaten a passionfruit?
I have mine are tart also but there are some sweet ones the purple ones ive been told paul
Well 4 fell off so there's only......................
94 passion fruit on the vine. LOL
LOL
Jan i belive you can make jelly from the juice and pulp. you may want to save some of the juice to help other types that are hard to sprout i just did some 2 year olf banna passion flower seeds they came up in 7 days i soaked the seeds for 5 days paul
I have had purple and yellow edulis, caerulea , and incense fruit so far. I like the purple then yellow then caerulea which was a little tart- (in that order). The Incense was a little bit sweet but it didn't hardly have any pulp to it-don't know if its just my plant or what. I have been trying to get fruit set on Ruby glow but so far no luck. I want to try the mollissima and great granadilla fruit sometime. Not all passie fruit is edible, some are toxic and they all should be very ripe when you eat them.
Toxic? Well I admit I ate one of mine and fortunately, I am still here so I guess there's no worries there.
Paul,
I was told you can freeze the pulp for future use so I will probably do that with some.
I'm going to start some seeds this weekend. I traded or sold many of these last year but held back one to see if it blooms true to the parent or reverts back. I know it's self fertile because I didn't have any other passis' in bloom that year. This year I only have one little incarnata put out a couple blooms so it's not likely it crossed with this one. I even tried to hand cross the white pollen onto the incarnata stigna and none took.
If anyone wants to trade fruit for fruit, let me know. I have better luck with fresher seeds.
How do you tell when the fruit is ripe? My maypop is loaded this year but the fruit is still very green.
If it does not Change Coulr Wait Till it gets soft then its ripe Paul
Most turn either purple or yellow when ripe but not sure with incarnata which one.
Thanks, didn't think to feel the fruit!
P. Incarnata turns yellow when ripe.
P. incarnata and P. edulis fruits will fall off the vine when ripe. Let them shrivel up for a few days after they drop to get maximum flavor.
