We have a front gate area that needs some fragrant shrubs to create a pleasant entrance way to my husband's client facing office. We are looking for ideas of shrubs that do well as container plants that will have a good influence on the smell at the entrance that will do well outside year round. Any ideas? We are in zone 5-6 but for container plants I consider us zone 4-5. Thanks for any ideas. Cheryl
Fragrant Shrub for the Northeast?
PS: Forgot to note that the spot is part shade/part sun.
Whew...had a difficult time finding some for your zone...everything that came to mind wasn't hardy there.

Hopefully this search thru Bluestone will help - if it doesn't work just go to their advanced search and plug in your zone, shrub, fragrant, and any other particulars that you'd prefer: http://www.bluestoneperennials.com/b/bp/results_pics?ext_title=Advanced+Search+Results&mv_action=search&mv_form_profile=fixse&mv_session_id=HmpwTDPP&mv_more_alpha=yes&mv_more_alpha_chars=1&hide=1&tf=name&ml=45&co=yes&rf=code%2Cname%2Cshort_desc%2Cprice%2Cqty%2Cnew_plant%2Cdisc&st=db&mv_value=nametype%3Dscientific&mv_value=srchtype%3Dcustom&sf=disc&op=ne&nu=0&sf=zones&op=rm&nu=0&ac=1&su=0&sf=p_color&op=rm&nu=0&ac=1&su=0&sf=soil&op=rm&nu=0&ac=1&su=0&sf=ht&op=rm&nu=0&ac=1&su=0&sf=bloom&op=rm&nu=0&ac=1&su=0&sf=sun&op=rm&nu=0&ac=1&su=0&sf=ty&op=rm&nu=0&ac=1&su=0&from_search=1&se=0&se=z4&se=&se=&se=&se=&se=&se=ts&listid_search=FRAGRANT
Spirea has a nice fragrance and blooms a little later than mock orange....and of course, old-fashioned lilac for earlier.
