I thought I'd start a thread just to chatter on...about how great our pets are...and why we love them...and all the goofy and lovable things they do. I know I can go on forever about my furkids...about nothing. So, tell us about yours...your dogs, cats, birds, goats, horses, fish...whatever you got...we want to hear why you have them, how you came to have them, why you keep them, the crazy things they do...whatever! :-) Include as many pics as you want, pics are wonderful! I guess I'll start...
Most all of you must know Baxter by now. He's my Sheltie. He's really my baby out of all of our 4 dogs. I know you're not supposed to have favorites, but I just can't help myself. I really thought he'd get jealous when we got Petey, the Chihuahua, last March...so we took him along when we picked Petey up. He's been so great with Petey, he's really taken him under his paw and treated him like his own pup. Baxter does NOT share, but I've seen him give up toys to Petey. I was amazed and so proud of my little guy. It just makes me love him more.
Bax is an all around goof-ball and he's not ashamed of anything. He's not ashamed to beg, that's for sure! Anytime Mama's eating, he's begging...a bad habit that is of my own creation. He used to paw at me when I was eating, which was extremely annoying. With the help of the folks on DG we've gotten it down to where he now just sits beside me and patiently waits until I am done...then he gets his little tid-bit. At one point I did have him ignoring food...then I was a bad Mama and broke the rules. Maybe someone should hit me with a rolled up newspaper!!
Bax is very intelligent. Too smart sometimes. I can't get over the amount of words he knows...and how he can spell. He knows out and o-u-t. He knows treat and t-r-e-a-t, also snack and how to spell that. There's too many to list. One that really tells a "tail" on me is when I say, "Bax, Mommy is going to go upstairs and take a nap, wanna go?" and he takes off full blast up the steps. Yes, my dog knows the meaning of the word "nap." *sigh* He runs upstairs, into the bedroom, up his doggy steps onto the bed and plops on DH's pillow...which is actually HIS pillow...he just lets DH borrow it now and then. He lays there for a bit, then when he wants to get really comfy he trots across the bed to my side where he slams his body onto my pillow/into my back to let his presence be known...and that it's petting time...but that it's also kissey time. Then it's pet-kiss, pet-kiss, pet-kiss for 5 or 10 minutes, then he's off to the foot of the bed for sleepy time. Sometimes I really do think he's a cat...between the fur and the way he acts sometimes...I really do wonder. I'm just waiting for him to start purring for proof!
