The cold rain seems to always bring out the hawks in our area. We believe this is a Sharp-shinned Hawk because of it's smaller size compared to a similar Cooper's Hawk.
This one landed in a tree below our house and was cleaning it's wings in the light rain. It then spotted our resident Crows in a nearby tree and the tv show was on. First it started darting toward one Crow then at a second Crow. One of the Crows called for backup from other nearby Crows and more came, but sat on the power lines all lined up. I think the Hawk saw them and decided to leave the area, but one Crow just had to play hero and chase it farther away. It was better than a soap opera watching this whole thing and I didn't even feel the rain as I stood out there with the camera.
I lightened the pictures since the sky and lake were so dark.
Sharp-shinned Hawk
Yep, Sharp-shinned Hawk. You can see the slender legs which give it its name very nicely!

Beautiful pictures! It's hard to get clear shots in dark weather. These are very nice.
