I had a pink brug and it was stunted due to being planted next to a tree it was a beautiful pink color.
I moved it last fall and have keep it fertlized and watered and it started blooming the other day.
It's only about 5 foot and has alot of blooms but their Yellow not pink they do have a very very slight hint on the inside of the bloom.
Can anyone tell me what happened to my pretty pink Brug?
My Brug changed color!?
Brugs change colors, lol, I have one right now starts out yellow and turns white later. Then I have some that start out yellow and turn pink and whatever. Lucky yours is over 5 feet tall, must be your warm weather here in NY, well, they must come inside for the winter!
Brug bloom color is influenced by many things. Plus as Clemen says many start out yellowish but as the blooms mature their true color emerges. How strong the color exhibited is influenced by temperature, amount of fertilizer, age of bloom, age of plant, time of year (season), how much light it receives, where in the US it's grown and maybe soil composition or pH. Your Brug obviously liked where it was. What is different about the new location? How old are the blooms? Did they just open? Are they a few days old?
How much sun is it getting now compared to where it was? If it's a lot more sun exposure, the blooms may look "washed out" compared to ideal exposure... but you will get a lot of blooms with good sun exposure.
Most all brug blooms start out yellow.. and then change to the true color... if they just opened, they will mature to the pink you knew before..
Humidity is a big factor for pink color.. IMHO
I don't have much to add that Betty didn't cover..
A pink brug will stay a pink brug.. it just may not be as intense in different conditions.
Thanks ZZ heres a pic and it was next to a tree before i moved it and it was a beautiful pink it gets more sun in the new place it is and it gets the same organic fert. i've always used.
I check the color at night and it was still yellow. But today the new blooms look a little pinker could the color be returning. I have slow down loads but will post both day and night pics.
Any sugestion on fert. or more acid soil I was given these about 10 years ago and never knew the proper way to care for them here in ga. they die back in the winter and come back every spring.
One of the top hybridizers in the world uses one we can't get here in the states, but hibiscus fertilizer comes closest to the NPK numbers. The difference is that the middle number, the phosphate, is about half the other two. I tried it the first part of last year, but quit buying it. It is more than twice as Miracle Grow. At the rate Brugs feed, I figured I'd go broke if I continued to buy the hibiscus fertilizer so I've gone back to using MG. The new MG has all the micro-nutrients so it's a complete fertilizer. So to answer your question, you can use any complete fertilizer that becomes readily available to the plant. Pelleted fertilizers are too slow for hungry feeders like Brugs. I've never tested the pH of regular MG, but I would stay away from fertilizer meant for acid loving plants. Anything that makes the pH too basic or too acidic, ties up nutrients making them unavailable to the plant.
If you want to experiment and this Brug is large enough, take a cutting and grow it in a pot. Next spring place the pot in the same spot it was in before you moved it. See what happens.
Thank you i always cut them to about a foot in the fall as they died back in the winter i can't say when i just know when it's time and i have alot of cuttings so yes i will try your suggestion. Thanks again *Harmony*
