when should I be removing bulbs for the winter, I'm zone 5. can I remove them while still green? and should I restart them indoors in the spring? or just when the ground warms outside. I started them in early may this year and some didn't even poke thru the ground until aug!

What kind of bulbs are they?
canna, gladiola, calla, fresia, caladium. when I dug them up last year, found the sweet potatos. those actually came back nicely.
we are having a late fall this year, but will be gone most of oct and am hoping to get things out soon.
