Houston and surrounding area ceramic shops?

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I know this is gardening but what better place to ask then in the Texas forum for info....

My daughter is transferring back down to Houston for work and she said she only had found one ceramic shop when she was there before so I was wondering since there are so many people in the area if anyone knows of any ceramic shops in or around the Houston area?

What kind of ceramic shop is she looking for? Supplies, kilns, glazes, that kind of thing? Or one that sells bisque items to glaze, etc?

My son works for the Ceramic Store in Houston (http://www.ceramicstoreinc.com/ ), which sells clay, glazes, tools, wheels, kilns, etc. I know that they supply schools & universities for the greater Houston area as well as many schools, artists and hobbyists around the nation. I'm not aware of any other store like theirs in the area (doesn't mean they don't exist though.) :-)

I used to go to a place in Michigan that sold the ceramics figurines and vases etc and you could buy your supplies there to paint them with---anyhow we'd paint them at home then return to that store and they'd fire them for you. I would love a place like that in Houston! But I've not driven past any there myself. :(

I'm pretty sure they exist... There are some stores that you can go in, buy the pieces, and paint the glazes right there, then leave them for firing. One in The Woodlands is called the Potter's Wheel. They are usually in a shopping center and often available for having kid's parties.

yes maggie where she can buy green ware take it home and clean it then go back to get it fired
not the kind you find in the malls those usually are the one that sell the plaster type things that don't need firing.

I would love to be able to afford to start my own shoppe but kilns cost a fortune LOL
