CLOSED: Magnolia Seeds - Are there any interest?

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

I saw some yesterday while waiting for my children by the shool. I don't have any need for them, but if there are interest, I will collect them.

Here are some information and instructions on how to germinate them:

OK Linda. That would be great. I just collected about 20 seeds while waiting for my kids to be released from school. I wondered what their germination rate is. I just read that the seeds need to be sown in fresh state and not allowed to dry out, so I'm going to go ahead and send you each 10 seeds tonight. I can collect more next week if you want more.

They will still have their red coating on them. See the link above for germination instructions.

I have DD blanchard magnolia seeds on my trees if anyone wants those. Big fast growing magnolia. You need to germinate when fresh.

No I won't clean the seeds for you.

The one in the picture was about 6 ft height when I planted it 8 years ago.

Wow! That is a humongous magnolia. I do not have room in my yard for a magnolia. I just love their flowers but hate it when they shed their leaves!

Here's one about to open. Others have said something about the leaves but I just run them over with a mulching mower, problem solved.

That's how we used to mow the leaves on the lawn of our first house.

I know in the plant files that if you click on some of the pictures of the Southern magnolia there are directions on the pictures of the thumbnails ... I find that the seeds are hard to keep ... I actually froze some last fall ... I hoping to try to see if they'll grow ... I know that if you take the red casing off the actual seed it'll help with the growth ... it also takes a month off of the propagation time ... I saw on one of the pics that it takes 3 months to germinate them. I guess thats why I haven't tried propagating them myself yet ... http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/28224/
