I wait until it is good and dry between waterings. I do not give it much fertilzer.

Well that's your problem. Epis are "jungle cactus" they need more water that other cactus and they need to be feed.
One a month with 10-10-10 and 0-10-10 in Dec, Jan and Feb.

The do not like to be wet but they do not like to dry out completely.

Water at least every three days or so it depends on how fast the soil drys out.

misting the plant would be helpful to. As I keep reminding my self they are use to the rainy, hot, humid jungle. It does not look terminal. So you should be able to save it. (I like clay pots. Less apt to stay to wet, they do dry out faster but the plants do not rot.)

Wren, I have been feeding mine weekly with bloom plus, middle number over 50 and mine has not stopped blooming this season, go figure, they do what ever they want to do. Water, every few days just like you.

You never know what works until you try it. I do use some composted cow manure in my soil mix, so I do not use the higher numbers. Most of mine are to young to bloom this year. But I am stepping up the feeding on the seedlings. I do not want to wait 7 years for them to bloom. I have a book coming that was written by Frank Supplie Hopefully I can learn the secrets to growing epis.

Thanks Wren. I had no idea. Will step it up a bit then. I have to say, I am finding I like the clay pots for a lot of things indoors. Outdoor plants not so much as I have to water alot more b/c of the pot. Indoors it helps some with over watering. I was thinking when I posted the pic that I ought to repot it and use a clay pot. thans again for the adivce.

Your welcome. For the epis I am finding that, even out side the clay pots are better.

On the water a web site that I was reading says that the soil should be like a squeezed out sponge---damp but not wet..

I still have a lot to learn. And I better sense I have now over 100 plants. Most are still little more than cuttings.

It also looks like it could use a weekend or so in the trees, with a rainstorm, if possible. Epis like to get outside when the weather is good.

Epi owners also like to get outside when the weather is good too. :-)

Don't we all. It is starting to get cool enough for us to get out a do.

I'll sit out side then. It's just one of those plants I haven't taken out side.

But not in full sun, give it bright shade or even just shade. It won't be able to take full sun with only a day out. It will sunburn badly.
