wick watering

Rockport, TX(Zone 9b)

I will be setting out two large planters in an area that is irrigated via our sprinkler system. Is it the least bit possible to water the planters by using wicks to draw from the irrigated area in which the planters sit? I guess I could do drip lines but was wondering if wicking would work. Thanks in advance.

You would insert wicks into the container soil as African violet growers do? It should work. What would you use for a water source, can you describe what you had in mind a little more?

The soil around the pot gets low-height spray irrigation. I had thought there might be enough water. Anyway, I already planted the pots without wicks. They are very large planters, so I use the hose to water. I didn't know wicking is used with African violets, so I'll read up about it. Thanks for the reply!
