I am pretty sure this is a flicker. Just to dark
CLOSED: Flicker??
One of the Catharus thrushes; not a good enough photo to tell which!

All Righty...I love it that I just shot where I see movement and get something...but wish I knew for sure!!!! I would put my money on Hermit Thrush.
Nanny56, I had to laugh when I saw this. I have that same bird at my cabin (OK, not the exact same bird, but it sure looks like the same kind) I have tried to take his photo all summer to take to a bird friend at work and every shot I have gotten is absolutely horrible. I still have no idea what it is and he seems to be gone now. I'll have to check into the Hermit Thrush and see if they come through here.

Well, Hermit Thrushes are in this area but after looking at the picture that isn't my bird-good luck with your ID!

We have narrowed it fown to either Hermit or Swainson's Thrush. It stays in the woods so I am having to shot into the woods. If it would just come out a little bit....
Good luck with yours too!!!!!!!!!!!!

see if you can force the flash, nanny. You might get shiny eyes, but might be enough light to get a focus.
I will give it a try...but I may have depend on sound...
Have you ever heard of pishing? My boyfriend bought me a CD on how to do it... it is a way to call out birds. I tried it while on vacation in Montana and it works!! Maybe you could do a little pishing to see if it will come out a little more.... read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pishing
You could also see some pishing videos by Pete Dunn on Youtube
will check that out.
