...and this seems like the right place to come for information. Can you give me some good links on line for good culture care and/or feeding of Tillandsias... I could spend all night on Google, but thought you would know best. Thanks in Advance.
I am hanging my tillandsias and I have some mounted on blocks and hanging....
Which form works best for you? Hanging them with wire? Potting up? Glueing them to a block of wood or a form?
Aloha,
Carol
Aloha...learning about Tillandsias....
I like mine on heavy fishing line. Makes it easy to drop in water for awhile to soak up some liquids. And I like them hanging in space.
Me too!!!!
Seriously, I have 3 Tillandsias, two very small, and one larger for most of the summer, and they are doing well. What I do is soak them for 20-30 minutes 2 or 3 times a week in tap water. Here our tap water is very low in dissolved solids and very low in hardness. During the summer, I was using Dyna-Grow Grow on all my plants once a week, and the Tills were no exception.
I did read that for very dehydrated plants one could soak a plant for 24 hours once, and 4 hours 2 days later to rehydrate the plants. It did wonders with the two smaller plants after I bought them.
But it seems really easy to grow them, provided they are not out back too long in the fall. Where are mine now? Humm. Better go look.
I water mine when i water in the back...and the rest of the time they get rained on mostly every night and it is kinda humid here. I love hanging them invisibly !!! I am getting a little collection going....Carol
I know this thread is a few weeks old...but I don't visit this forum too often.
Just wondering, how do you hang your tillandsias from fishing line? How do you attach them to it (or do you just tie it around them?)
I have a few grouped in little teakwood orchid baskets.....it's been working out nicely for me.
Carol...I wouldn't think you'd have to 'water' them at all in those conditions, (sounds ideal!) but you could try mixing a small amount of liquid plant food into the water of a mister.
Do you fertilize yours, Nan. I am staying away from fertilizing the bromiliads after killing (really, butchering) a ton of them recently with Seaweed Extract!!!
Hi Carol!
I only do so a couple of times a *year*....either with a few drops of liquid fertilizer in a mister or by soaking in a bucket or bowl of water with just a bit of liquid fertilizer....so we're probably talking about 1/8 (or even less) of the regular strength recommended....mine have bloomed every year for the past 3 years, so they must be happy with that.
Interesting...I will try it....
Thanks, Nan...
