Monarchs in the DFW area

Keller, TX(Zone 7b)

I have tried in the past to rais Monachs here in the DFW area and I've never found eggs or cats. I've also wandered through fields checking milkweed. When I lived in Vermont as a kid they were everywhere.

I know they migrate through and they like to visit my Mist Flower. . . along with the Queens.

I'm wondering if others in the DFW area have been successful in attracting Monarchs as cats or if they really just migrate on through. If others have been successful I may try again next year!

Thanks,

Christine

Hello Christine, there is something strange going on this year around this area. There have been many Monarchs in my yard and i have seen them laying eggs, but when I go out looking for cats I can't find any and the eggs disappear too, and it is very frustrating.
I think there are many predators out there and they never let them live.
So now when i see a female laying eggs I go and pick the leaf with the egg on it right away, and have been able to raise a few that way.
I put the leaves with the eggs on them in my small tupperware container on top of a moist folded napkin
then I cover it with a paper cover, and mist them very lightly once or twice a day to keep them fresh, when the eggs hatch and they start eating I feed them fresh individual leaves, and it works great.
I hope that helps.
Josephine.

That does help; thanks! I used to live in Arlington myself and grew milkweed but never saw them laying eggs.

I am hoping I still have time this year. I'm thinking of getting some milkweed this week and see what happens.

Thanks for your reply!!
