well finally, the brown headed coebirds are movigs on and the smaller bird have access to the feeders--goldfinches, tufted titmouse, american cardinals, ect. so gld to see the back of them!
i realize yhey are some, wiht greay vehence, that don't agree wiht me i phoned the audubon sos. and thy said tat thebh cowbirds do not parasitize the englis house sparro nest, instes the do our red-eyed virioes.
i'm entitled to my diskikes as the next fellow and wuldt like a respone with the level turned dow ,this time lee
just becaue i'e not tears under mt belt with bird watching, i'm no fool eithrt
brown headed coe birds
No one will yell at you lee; I'll make sure of that. That's ashame they don't put their eggs in the House Sparrows nest but I can understand why seeing how tenacious the HS are. I don't get many Brown-headed Cowbirds here but I think we all have birds that we don't care for.
My own choice for bad ones would be European Starlings and House Sparrows
but thats only because I get so many here. :-)
Pelle, they are addressing me and a dmail I sent ...and I am afraid I misunderstood a post and then they misunderstood my response. I certainly wasn't yelling at you Lea/Lee. It was simply a misundertanding of opinions and statements.
Cowbirds lay their eggs in a variety of song birds nests Here they used the Chipping Sparrows a lot this year. The English House Sparrows are a nonnative bird that attacks and kill native cavity nesters such as Bluebirds and woodpeckers. So they are not one of my favorite birds. Along with the cowbirds & Starlings.
Lea, I do hope you will join us here on the Birdwatching forum and I do publicly apologize for any misunderstanding. I did show our communication with another member here.
Correcting my bad grammar!

claudia, please all is forgotton on my part. things get misinturpretted and i'm a silly hot-head. for years, i spent so much money on bird seeds, often filling the feeders twice a day. i do so love the goldfinches, tufted titmice, etc, you know the smaller birds. i'm disabled and live on a fixed income so out of desperation, i phoned audubon and followed theie advice which worked. now yhe brown-headed cow birds leave the feeders alone and don't run off the other birds. i love birds. always have,
once when i was a young boy, my mother ran into my room shouting, 'they're here, thet're here.' well, it scared me nearly to death but what she was telling me was that the hummers had arrived.. because i'm having the first of the total knee replacements sept.23, this is the first tear in 12 or more years i haven't fed the'little flying jewels'(hummers) and i believe that has saddened me more than the surg.
iam, as i do each year about the second week in november, await the arrival of the red-breasted grosbeaks. another of my favorites. i don't mind their gobbling down the feed, as they are on their migratory route. i was absolutely thrilled this past winter/early spring to have seen dozens of evening grosbeaks feasting off juniper berries. had never seen any before. have you?
so, i do love birds. this being a rural area, i dread when bird huntind season comes, as i know some of my mourning doves will have not made it. they arent 'mine' but the ones i've come to know.
after surg., i look forwated to the pileated woodpeckers(aka woody woodpeckers) coming. they spend alot of timr foraging amongst the lichen.
so, as far as i'm concerned, the hatchet is buried and look forward to joining all of you. i have few passions in my life but birds , animals, and orchids are the main ones.
thank you for you posting. may we become fast friends and when i gei a dig. cam., i'll share photos.
sincerely, lee p.s. please forgive my misspellig as i'm in a hurry to respond to your kind posting
I saw my very first Rose-beasted Grobeak this spring and it took my breath away! Beautiful birds!!! I have yet to see the Evening Grosbeaks...am so hoping some day. We do get them here in the summer. I just started birdwatching this year so am learning a lot here at Daves!
I have Pileated's here too that was my best bird to add to my list this year and get photos of! I had one come everyday for about 6 weeks to my yard. I still hear or see one occasionally.
So glad you are joing us here Lee.
there were so many evening grosbeaks, i couldn't count them. the book that helped me most was National Audubon Society 'The Sibley Guide to Birds'. lee
I got that book for my birthday this year!! I am getting better, but sometimes I just have no idea where to start looking!!
Resin & Pelletory have been very patient with me. LOL
good about the book. i know many swear by roger tory peterson and his books are informative but this one was listed in an orvis catalog so i ordered it. resin and pelletory, indeed. seem to be nice people and knowledgeable. lee
