American persimmon , Diospyros virginiana

Fayette, MO(Zone 6a)

Will be collecting seeds from my persimmon trees in the next couple of weeks if anyone is interested ...

Looking for anything interesting I don't have in trade.

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

I received some persimmon seeds from my parents last fall and have had no luck germinating them yet. Do you know how?

Fayette, MO(Zone 6a)

I would assume that winter sowing and recreating the same conditions that they germinate in the wild should work.. I haven't actually done it myself..

How did you try to germinate them?

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

I tried several methods -just poking them in the ground -fermenting then potting -just plain putting the seeds in a pot outside . Also tried sprouting in water.
I guess I should be asking this over at the seed starting forum just didn't know if anyone else had persimmons.

I have had the same germinating problems with the persimmon seeds. KathyJo, I would love some seeds to try again. I will soon have some fresh hibiscus sabdariffa seeds. André

Great info DEMinPA.. Thanks
Maybe everyone won't be so discouraged and still want to trade for my seeds :)

Kathy , didn't mean to scare people away.I think more should take the challenge. And just think what great trading plants they would have if they ended up with more little trees than they wanted. ^_^

Thanks for the info DEMinPA.
