I am soooo excited!! Some weeks ago (I can get the date from my DG notes!) I planted 3 very small pieces of ginger root from the grocery. Today I see a leaf forming! Wow! I really didn't think this would occur. I think I just planted it in regular potting soil (miricle grow, perhaps), and I thought I read that they require special soil, etc.
I just wanted to share my exciting "newborn" with you all.

itty bitty ginger piece is making a plant!!!
Ginger is fun to grow. it may not bloom because of the length of days in the winter...but you may get more root. I make tea out of the root, and Iced Ginger Tea is fantastic!!!
