should I replant this plant?

Corpus Christi, TX

I recently purchased a small plumeria from a local nursery. I was moving the plant to protect it from hurricane Ike and the stem fell over in my hand. The plant had been standing upright and had put on new leaves . There are no visible roots on the end of the stem. Should I replant this plant or what?

your only other option is to graft it and if you don't plan on doing that, then you'll have to put it back in the pot and let it send out roots into the soil. just remember to not water it like it's rooted given your humid climate.

Nice nursery to sell you an unrooted stick as a 'plant'....

I would cut off all the leaves and plant in shallow soil (preferably fast draining, or amend with perlite) and keep warm, then when it sends out new roots you can plant it deeper.
You have the time of year against you. Rooting is easier in spring and summer.

I hope you and your plumeria came through Ike unscathed!

tThank you for your help. I m going to try to root the plant. Ihope it developes roots angd grows well. I was reading on the plumeris FAQs and it was saying to dip the end in a growth hormone before planting. Should I do this? Hopefully the plant will have time to get started since it does not really start to get cool here until November. I am new to plumerias and was really looking forward to having a red blooming plant.

Corpus Christi was really lucky not to get torn up by Ike. We only got a little wind.

Yes, I would dip it in some rooting hormone. Good luck!!
